Certified & Notarised Translation

Services

Who it's for

  • Applying to a foreign authority, university, employer or registry office with a birth certificate, diploma, marriage certificate, driving licence or court document
  • Submitting documents to Estonian authorities that must be provided in Estonian
  • Referred by a lawyer, notary or immigration adviser who needs the certification mechanism handled correctly

Estonia no longer appoints sworn translators — here’s what replaced that system.

Estonia abolished the sworn-translator institution in 2015. In its place: the translation agency certifies the translation with a signed statement of accuracy, and — where the receiving authority requires it — a notary separately attests the translator’s signature or declaration. That’s the mechanism a “certified & notarised translation” from us actually uses.

Confidentiality & data handling

A passport, birth certificate or court document is one of the most sensitive categories of personal data we handle. It’s transferred encrypted, seen only by the translator and reviewer assigned to your job, and deleted on a set schedule once your job and its correction window have passed.

The correct certification mechanism

We apply the mechanism that actually replaced Estonia’s sworn-translator system in 2015, correctly named and correctly applied — not loose, outdated terminology.

Independent review before certification

A second, qualified reader checks the translation against the source before it’s certified.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as a sworn translation?

No — Estonia stopped appointing sworn translators in 2015. We certify the translation with a signed statement of accuracy, and add a notary’s attestation where required.

Will this definitely be accepted?

We apply the correct certification and notarisation mechanism for Estonian and EU standards. No agency can guarantee a specific foreign authority’s individual decision — if you know the exact requirement in advance, tell us when you order.

What if I only need the document understood, not certified?

Then Personal Document Translation is what you need, and it’s cheaper — see that page to compare.

How long does certification take?

Certification adds no extra time to standard turnaround; notary attestation typically adds 1–2 working days, depending on notary availability.
